About

Progressive
neo classics.

Eric Christenson has been shaping boards out of Costa Mesa for over two decades. While he embraces the legends before him, he also looks forward to fresh ideas and shapes. This fusion of traditional style and modern performance has resulted in the creation of progressive, neo classics — boards that honor the past without being stuck in it.

Every board is shaped by hand. Carried by discerning shops in California and Japan. Ridden by surfers who know the difference.

Eric Christenson shaping

"The board in the stand is the only board that matters."

As demand for EC Surfboards continues to grow at a seemingly exponential rate, his shaping philosophy remains the same… The board in the stand is the only board that matters. As a consummate craftsman, his passion for detail is palpable, and “shortcut” is not in his shaping vocabulary.

The layman may overlook the concave deck or the subtleties of foil and line, but it’s all there in the foam. A physical manifestation of Bruce Lee ideologies and hydrodynamics.

At the heart, he rests his laurels on the idea that no matter who the end user — novice or seasoned pro — they will receive a board that has been nurtured from start to finish. And it will go like a bat out of hell.

Fantom of the Agua Inquire
Fantom of the AguaFantom of the Agua

Evil Twin + Frodo = Fantom of the Agua. This is a personal favorite. The front 3/4 utilizes the same outline as the Evil Twin, yet the width of the swallow tail has been pulled in via a couple of wavy wings (akin to the Frodo) making the swallow tip width a little narrower than the Evil Twin but wider than the Frodo. Huge on speed and paddleability, yet still quite versatile and progressive compared to other full figured fish concepts. The slightly pulled in swallow sharpens the radius of bottom and top turns while the quad fin setup allows for a more modern approach — more release, slide, airs — yet still maintaining the ability to draw some of the longest lines that a classic fish outline does best, with all the extra speed you'll have to burn. Cosmic FonzerCosmic Fonzer

The Cosmic Fonzer is a versatile step up shape that has been tested from draining Newport to Ocean Beach SF and all the way to the North Shore. The wide point forward plan shape allows for more foam under your chest making this board a great paddler — helps fighting current and enduring long paddles. The pulled in tail helps to stick critical drops, turn on a dime, and is at home in the tube. Paired with a five fin Fonzer setup and bottom contours, the drive and acceleration in bottom turns and cutbacks are face melting. All of these characteristics make this a go-to travel board as it can handle a variety of conditions with confidence. Ayyyy. Interested in a one-off custom? Hit the Inquire button.

This is the ultimate short to mid-length shred sled. The inspiration of Wayne Lynch style discs is still alive and well with the Freeride short and mid lengths. This is one of those boards that leaves it up to the rider. Based on the design of Bob Simmons, known as the "father of the modern surfboard". Encarnación Inquire
Encarnación

A California adaptation of the evolution era Vee-bottomed boards pioneered by Australia's short-board revolutionaries in the late 60's and early 70's. Flat rocker with a domed deck allow for plenty of buoyancy as well as extremely fast paddle and trim speed. Rails are dropped low, with tucked speed edge in the rear 1/4 of the board's rail. The magic is in the deep Spiral Vee from amidships to the wide round or square tail, which effectively creates 'dual rocker' outlines: flat rocker down the center line, but a lifted rocker out the tips of the tail. Fast and lively, speed to burn. Versatile design for use in everything from open faced point waves to beach breaks and reefs. Knee to overhead. Interested in a one-off custom? Millennium Falcon Inquire
board photo

"You've never heard of the Millennium Falcon?… It's the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs." — Han Solo. Go fast, go far. The Millennium Falcon is the product of abstract and reflective thinking regarding the nature of the traditional fish implemented into a longer rail line with fine tuned bottom contours. The result is pure speed and enjoyment. Highly popular amongst those seeking a "Gentlemen's fish" for point breaks or shapely beach breaks, it really excels in waves with more slope or shoulder. The very low rocker is brilliantly complemented with EC's tri hull spiral vee bottom to provide lift and acceleration through turns. Tip your hat to the skipper as you cross-country surf through every flat section of the wave and cover distances you never thought were possible before. Interested in a one-off custom? NeoComp Inquire
board photoboard photo

The NeoComp is the most progressive longboard in the EC lineup. It features a contemporary(ish) rocker — yet still low compared to most in the progressive genre — that lets you bite hard on your turns and get near vertical coming off the bottom. A modest shallow concave nose keeps you properly noseriding to complement these progressive qualities. This sled is very easy to adapt to and quite versatile in a plethora of wave conditions no matter what your skill level is. If you enjoy a more progressive approach to longboarding while still being able to noseride and surf smooth and stylish, yet want to avoid a super rockered out profile, the NeoComp is for you. Diamond Sled Inquire
Diamond Sled

The Diamond Sled has been a mainstay in the EC noserider lineup for several years. A wide but not too wide nose combined with a mellow rocker and wide diamond tail make this board a favorite for under head high classic longboard waves. Don't confuse this board with other noseriders that push you up and out of the wave face with too much tail lift and nose concave. This board has a subtle blend of both that keeps you speeding through trim sections and balanced on the nose, without slowing you down. Turns remarkably well for being a full figured noserider. Mod Sled

A well rounded log for those that don't want a hard edged longboard and want to keep the traditional approach alive without sacrificing the ability to throw a whip turn or react quickly to the wave. Works excellent in a little faster beach break or waves where your heavy noserider just feels unwieldy. Modern bottom contours with a classic outline — round, diamond, or square tail all complement this shape nicely. If you're looking for an all around log for beach breaks and points alike that will scream through trim sections and perch noserides in the pocket, the Pistolero is for you. By taking the pulled nose template of the Daddy O. and combining it with the Mod Sled's bottom contours and soft 50/50 rails you are left with a fast soup slashing outline that will handle ankle to head high conditions.
